Malachite is an ore of copper (yes, copper). But the reason it is famous is not because of its chemical importance. It is widely used in astrology as a symbol of good luck. So here are some facts about Malachite – 1. Malachite is used as a gemstone as it is believed that it brings good luck. 2. This green stone is worn to detect impending danger, and is assumed to break into pieces when danger is near. 3. It is one of the oldest known green pigments to be used in paintings, because its colour do not fade over time or when exposed to light. 4. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans believed malachite repel evil spirits and it has metaphysical property. It was often carved into amulets and has a long history of having protective qualities. 5. This beautiful opaque green stone is quite toxic because of its copper content (57%) but it is safe in its polished form. Do let us know your views on this awesome chemical. :)

Group 1 elements are known to form hydroxides and hydrogen gas which results the formation of fire 🔥 thus producing a lot of heat on treatment with water and as we move down in a group, the reaction becomes more vigorous. WBJEE Results will be announced after the lockdown gets over. Total 1.1 lac candidates appeared for WBJEE this year.
